Artavius Veasey Post #8: The Lives of the Dead
This last chapter of the book was very hard for me to read. This chapter was very personal to Tim O'Brien and his creative writing skills was very impressive in the closing chapter of the book. This chapter took me the hardest to read because it reminded me of my great grandmother whose past and the fun times we use to have with one another. I mean just to think about it, its amazing on how life works. One day you or your loved one is here and the next day they could be gone. That's why you should never take your time spent with anyone for granted. You never know, they could be gone tomorrow. So its best to be in the moment and cherish the time you have with that person because once its all said and done you cant get those hours back. Never take anything or anyone for granted and O'Brien made that clear as he expressed himself in this last chapter. It was a very personal ending and I appreciate O'Brien being transparent with his readers for the closing of the novel. This novel was quite an experience. From the war to after the war; all the different perspectives and ups & downs, but I enjoyed the ride O'Brien took me on throughout this novel. I honestly didn't think I was going to enjoy this book much but I clearly was wrong, I appreciated each section and perspective given within the book. Very pleased that I got the chance to read it.
